Transferring your CFP licence to the UK

As an existing holder of a CFP licence you are eligible to transfer this qualification to the UK if you are planning to emigrate.  In order to transfer your existing licence we will need the following:

The Institute of Financial Planning (IFP) will then contact the relevant CFP board and ask for confirmation that you are a fully paid-up member.  Alternatively you can ask the appropriate person to advise them of your good standing etc before leaving.  Upon receipt of this information you will be sent a set of membership and CFP registration forms.  It is a requirement of the Institute of Financial Planning that in order to use the CFP licence you must also be a member of the Institute and agree to abide by the code of ethics.  You will therefore be required to pay an annual membership fee of £140.00 plus an annual CFP licence fee of £125.00.  The CFP licence fee will be pro-rota for the first year, and then renewable annually on 1st April thereafter.

In order to be able to practice in the UK market and offer financial planning services, you must hold certain minimum UK qualifications, such as the Certificate in Financial Planning (Cert FP) which is administered by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII).  You will not be able to use the CFP licence in the UK until you have successfully completed the Certificate in Financial Planning (Cert FP).  This is not just an IFP requirement but a regulatory one as well.

This qualification consists of five separate papers, details of which can be obtained from the CII website, www.cii.co.uk or you can speak to one of their advisers on: (+44) 0208 989 8646.

When you have completed the Certificate in Financial Planning the Institute of Financial Planning (IFP) will need to see a copy of your certificate.  It is only at this stage that you will be eligible to use the CFP licence in the UK and enjoy the same benefits as our other licensees.
